Kia ora -
At the request of our community we have made a social campaign for parents, carers, family and friends of disabled tamariki to share. We are relying on you - our community and supporters - to help us spread the world.
Please copy and paste the following email and send it to everyone in your inbox. And please share the information below on social media. We need all of the help and support we can get. Please adapt the email below to suit your needs.
Kia ora,
I am writing to you as the parent of a disabled child/as someone who loves a disabled child/as a member of the disabled community [Please adapt as needed].
I need your help.
For the last eight months this government has been attacking the disabled community with funding cuts and the removal of supports - which include removing flexibility of purchasing respite care leaving parents exhausted, removal of travel allowances, limiting access to therapies and recently removing front line services from the agency created for disabled people by disabled people - Whaikaha.
We are asking you for your support.
If you support the disabled community - please consider sharing the following post at midday on Thursday 22 August or any time after.
Just cut and paste the following and include the two slides we have attached:
Did you vote for this?
We might have different politics, maybe you voted for this coalition government - but is this what you wanted?
The disability community is being harmed by funding cuts without consultation. Parents of disabled children are being hurt by this government.
We need you.
If this isn’t what you voted for, if you believe disabled people and disabled children are valued and loved members of Aotearoa - tell your local MP:
I didn’t vote for this.
Please stop hurting the disabled community. We need this government’s attacks on disabled tamariki and adults to stop.
We are calling on the government to:
Stop the funding cuts to the disability sector
Restore respite care
Protect and fund Enabling Good Lives
Save Whaikaha
Re-establish respite support during school hours
Bring back Tākai.
Stop making decisions without consulting the disabled community! Nothing about us without us!

Nga mihi
Awhi community, parents and carers.
